The USAID Accelerated Microenterprise Advancement Project (AMAP) is a four-year and one one-year option period project managed by the USAID Office of Microenterprise Development. The project has been designed to provide USAID Washington and Mission-based operating units with services required to establish, deepen and/or expand their activities in microenterprise development. The AMAP facility will provide quick and effective technical assistance, training, financial and evaluative services required to design, implement, evaluate and coordinate the delivery of creative, state-of-the-art microfinance and business development services to the world's poor. AMAP has been designed to: expand the delivery of financial and business development services providers to microentrepreneurs; increase the capacity of financial and business development service providers to microenterprises; support basic and applied research on key issues in the microenterprise development field; improve the legal, regulatory and operational environment for microentrepreneurs and the institutions that serve them; and expand the dissemination of best practices to USAID Missions and operating units, USAID-sponsored programs and the microenterprise development field.
The goal of the 'BDS Knowledge & Practice' component of AMAP is to advance knowledge and practice - in the field of BDS - that leads to the improved performance of microenterprises and ultimately to poverty reduction. To achieve this goal 'BDS Knowledge & Practice' has the following objectives:
- Generate and manage knowledge in BDS through the development and management of a BDS research and learning agenda that results in a range of products and body of information, of which Missions and practitioners are aware and that are used widely and result in improved practice
- Advance practice in BDS through the dissemination of research products, the monitoring of awareness, use and relevance of these products for Missions and practitioners; and through the direct provision of technical assistance, training, and other services.
