GTZ PROGRESS (Promotion of Private Sector SMEs) in Bangladesh, thru 2007

    Description
The SME promotion program of GTZ in Bangladesh composes of six different components, that together contribute to the development of different sectors. This includes the ready made garments (RMG) sector, as well as silk, leather, handicraft and seed.

PROGRESS applies a BDS (business development services) market development methodology. This implies that support mechanisms for SMEs are developed with assistance of PROGRESS, but that the actual provision of such services is by local organizations, thus contributing to long term and sustainable solutions.

The Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Bangladesh is GTZ's strategic partner. In addition, PROGRESS has many operational partners based within the sectors that are supported, such as training organizations, business associations and chambers, design centers, etc.

In Dhaka, a team of approximately 15 international and national experts are engaged in the present phase of PROGRESS, with a duration until the end of 2007.

The website (address above) provides information about the project as well as documents for downloading on the overall project, individual sector market assessments and details on specific components of the project.
